Another project to benefit in the town is the Bridgnorth and District Furniture Scheme which is given £3,000. The biggest award agreed on the night at the committee meeting was £60,000 towards toilet and kitchen improvements at the Severn Valley Country Park.
“This money will be spent on building a separate toilet block with an increased number of units to cater for the increase in visitors,” said a council spokesman. “This will allow the existing toilet area within the visitor centre to be extended into the kitchen area, to enable hot food to be provided and the seating area to be extended.”
A further £3,000 has been approved for creating an adventure play trail at the Severn Valley Country Park, which will fit in with the natural environment and encourage visitors to explore the area.
A sum of £30,000 goes towards de-silting Donington Pool, near Albrighton, to improve the value of the fishery, the visual amenity of the nature reserve and the flood control capacity. The pool will also benefit from a further £10,000 of district council cash to help create a decking area for fishing and informal recreation and generally improve the appearance of the nature reserve.
Another £10,000 has been earmarked towards converting Broseley Cemetery Chapel into a cultural and heritage centre for tourists and local residents. And a further £10,000 is allocated towards widening and resurfacing paths at Wesley Brook Linear Park, Shifnal and providing signposts from the town centre to the area to encourage and provide a safer off-road route for walkers and cyclists.
The decisions were made by the council after it was allocated £176,209 for this year from the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives Scheme.
“These are all excellent improvement schemes for the district and I am delighted that the resources and finance committee have approved these grants,” said chairman Councillor Milner Whiteman.
