Bold 13 bare all

The official launch of the 2009 ‘Art’ calendar will take place at 7.30pm and members of the public are invited to join the models, whose identities have been closely guarded until now, and sponsors, for an evening of fun and celebration.

Funds raised from the calendar —based on the original WI calendar which inspired the blockbuster Calendar Girls — will help pay for the town’s Christmas lights. The brave Broseley bunch have been captured discreetly on film by local photographer Angela Brickley, with a few strategic props to preserve their modesty.

Props have been chosen with the themes of Flora and Fauna and Modes of Transport – but the committee has remained tight lipped about the details.  And while the models have bared all, their identities have been cloaked in secrecy.

Not all of the committee are featured in the calendar and to make up the numbers they have been joined by volunteers from the local community. There are 13 models in total – one for each month and another starring on the cover – who is local resident Brett Bagley.

The committee raises cash to replace and add to the display of festive lights in the town centre each year and finances the switch-on event.  This year’s switch-on entertainment on November 22 will include a samba band, jazz band,

theatre and a street entertainer, with stalls opening in Victoria Hall and the Birchmeadow Centre from 2pm.

Councillor Jean Jones, who is involved in the venture, said:  “We decided we would do whatever we could to raise funds for the Christmas lights.

“We brainstormed a lot of ideas and this one seemed the best, as we wanted to do something a bit different. We have been trying to maintain an air of mystery – but all will be revealed.”

The calendar costs £5.
