‘Stop squabbling’ says mayor

St Leonard’s Close resident Ron Richards told councillors during the public session that the identity of the author of the letters was now known following a police investigation.

He called for an apology for what he alleged was a “gratuitous and rude answer” that he had been given at a council meeting in February when he asked who had written the letter.

Mr Richards had alleged in an earlier letter to the council that a personal attack last winter on town councillor Adrian Tacchi was uncalled for, and that the councillor should be given full support by the Bridgnorth public.

The mayor told Tuesday’s meeting that with new town clerk Rachel Humphries in post he was “anxious to foster a spirit of goodwill with the people of Bridgnorth and instill a feeling of public co-operation between the public and the town council”.

“I am sorry that you feel you have been slighted in any way, but a lot of things were said in the heat of the moment at that time, which upon reflection, maybe would have been better left unsaid,” he told Mr Richards. “I am now keen to move us all forward with this new spirit of co-operation.”

Councillor Adrian Tacchi said that five members of the council had received “anonymous and upsetting” mail. His comments were halted as Councillor Iain Seivewright said the matter was not on the agenda.
