Former Bridgnorth Golf Club assistant Martin Payne (above), who has been head professional at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club for the past eight years, achieved another success at the Evesham Golf Club annual pro-am last week.
Payne was victorious in the individual professional tournament with an excellent score of three under par 69 to win the event for the second year running and take his tally of individual wins in Worcestershire events to over 30.
Out of a field of 25 local and tour professionals Payne came out on top with two pros in second on two under par 70. Payne’s round included five birdies with the only blemish being a double bogey on his 11th hole.
Payne who was born in Bridgnorth also recently competed in the British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall near Coventry. The event was hosted by Tony Jacklin and included several tour pros who Payne managed to beat to finish in a very pleasing 25th position out of over 100 original professional entries.
