Grand finale for music festival

AUDIENCES flocked to two concerts on Saturday, which signalled the end of Bridgnorth Music Fest. The first was an acoustic concert set in the gardens of the castle grounds, which saw six acts performing to an appreciative crowd — some bringing picnics for the afternoon.

In the evening came the finale with the Bridgnorth Choral Society teaming up with Cleobury Mortimer’s Bell Inn Brass Band. Festival organiser Malcolm Bridges said they performed a wonderful programme of music in St Mary Magdalene Church to a large audience.

“They finished with a rousing presentation of Land of Hope and Glory, which had everyone joining in and asking for more,” he said. “The whole festival has gone even better than planned.

“This year has been really good and we have been very lucky with the weather — I think we got the only dry week in August. There were a lot of performers this year with differing styles of music.

“The classical music went very well as did the brass section, so we will definitely be carrying on with that next year.”

This year’s Fest, the third since it reformed, has been the biggest yet, with over 50 bands and artists performing at different venues throughout the week.

“We already have a few ideas knocking around for next year and we should have a total amount raised for the charities in about two weeks,” Mr Bridges said. “But one thing we could really do with for next year is some sponsorship — that would be a great help.”
