‘Fantastic’ Music Festr

BRIDGNORTH’S “fantastic” week-long Music Fest reaches a climax tomorrow night with a choral and brass band concert in St Mary’s Church.

Bridgnorth Choral Society will be joined by the Bell Inn Brass Band from Cleobury Mortimer for the concert, which will run from 7.30-10pm. Tickets cost £7 from the Hope House Hospice shop in High Street, phone (01746) 769261 or from the parish office at St Leonard’s Hall-Church in Racecourse Drive, phone (01746) 767174.

This event will follow a free acoustic concert ‘Play in the Park’ to be performed in the bandstand in Bridgnorth’s Castle Grounds from noon.

One of the highlights of the Fest was six hours of music at an open air concert in the High Street on Sunday.

The road was closed to traffic – other than for emergencies – as groups including The HMV Band, Loose Endz, The Love Jones, Stretchneck and The Dockers entertained the crowds.

“It was excellent and we had some lovely weather for it,” said Fest organiser Malcolm Bridges. “Another big success was a classical concert in St Leonard’s Church on Saturday afternoon, which was very well attended, with Waifs and Staves performing and with support from Beverley Ball.

‘We held the Chelmarsh Bash for the first time and that also went very well with a very good turn-out. Then we had lots of visitors for entertainment on The Quayside on Monday,” said Mr Bridges. “That was so popular that there was an extra half hour and it finished at 6.30pm. The whole festival has been fantastic so far and we are looking forward to a repeat next year.”

Other events to come are as follows:-

TONIGHT:- Severn Centre, Highley: T-Ford and The Sunkings. All 9pm, Bell & Talbot, Acoustic Underdogs; Black Boy, Nikki Rous and Bulls Head at Chelmarsh, Sarah Ray.

TOMORROW:- Both 9pm, Woodberry Down, The Lemuns and Bell & Talbot, Jamie Knight.
