BROSELEY has got its very own Calendar Girls – and boys – as members of the town’s Christmas Lights Committee bare all for charity. A number of committee members have been photographed for a calendar along the lines of the original WI calendar which inspired the popular film Calendar Girls.

The brave Broseley bunch have been captured in the buff on film by local photographer Angela Brickley, with a few strategic props to preserve their modesty. Props have been chosen with the themes of Flora and Fauna and Modes of Transport – but the committee is remaining tight lipped about the details.
And while the models have bared all, their identities at present remain cloaked in secrecy. Not all of the Christmas Lights Committee are featured in the calendar, and to make up the numbers they have been joined by volunteers from the local community. There are thirteen models in total – one for each month and another starring on the cover.
The calendars are set to be launched at the end of September or in early October, when the identities of the Calendar Girls and Boys, from January to December, will be revealed.
Councillor Jean Jones, who is involved in the venture, coyly declined to confirm that she is one of the participants.
But she told the Journal: “We decided we would do whatever we could to raise funds for the Christmas Lights. We brainstormed a lot of ideas and this one seemed the best, as we wanted to do something a bit different. We are trying to maintain an air of mystery now until the big launch.”
The Christmas Lights Committee raises cash to replace and add to the the display of festive lights in the town centre each year, and finances the switch-on event.
This year’s switch-on entertainment on November 22 will include a samba band, jazz band, theatre and a street entertainer, with stalls opening in Victoria Hall and the Birchmeadow Centre from 2pm. Christmas cards designed by local artist Maggie Humphrey will also be on sale, and will show the High Street in Broseley.
