Police were called at about 2pm on Monday following reports a man with a bladed weapon had entered the store in Station Road, which is also the village shop, and threatened staff. A member of staff at the post office suffered a minor hand injury.

The alleged offender is believed to have made off empty-handed in a silvery-blue car towards the village centre.

Detective Sergeant Allan Crossley, who is leading the investigation, has appealed for anyone who was in the area or who might have information to contact him at Bridgnorth Police Station.

“I am particularly keen to hear from a cyclist who was in the Station Road area at the time of the alleged robbery, who we believe may have had a near miss with the car after it made off from the post office,” he said.

A blue Ford Escort was found on fire by police outside the village in the Newhouse Lane area less than half an hour after the alleged robbery. It, and another car near the Wolverhampton address, a red Ford Mondeo, have been seized for examination. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bridgnorth CID on 08457 444 888 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
