OFFICIALS behind Bridgnorth’s Heart of England in Bloom entry have praised the community and volunteers for making the town look “beautiful” for the judges. Heart of England in Bloom judges visited Bridgnorth on Friday and looked round a number of places where on-going community projects have taken place.

Some of the projects included adults with learning difficulties who were involved with planting new flower beds and a school children’s Fuchsia project. The judges received an official presentation and welcome from Bridgnorth mayor Councillor Brian Jones in the morning then they were given a guided tour around the town.
Rachel Humphries, Bridgnorth town clerk designate, said: “We had a lovely morning with the judges, the weather stayed dry for us and we’re thankful for that.
“The judges seemed to enjoy the morning, they had a very nice tour. Lots of residents and helpers and volunteers were out along the route, who have worked so hard to make the town beautiful. The judges enjoyed having a chat with them.
“It’s all about the people who make it happen. The judges also enjoyed meeting the direct labour force at the cemetery. We wanted to make sure that the judges met the people who have made the difference, it’s not just the town council staff.
“It involves residents, volunteers and the community who make such an effort and we really appreciate that.
“The judges enjoyed the castle grounds which look beautiful at the moment.
“We don’t quite know where we’re going to get to, but everyone has put in 100 per cent and now we just have to wait and see what happens. We would love to have success this year. The Britain in Bloom judging takes place on August 5.”
Bridgnorth was named overall winner of the Heart of England in Bloom competition last year and was one of four put forward for the national competition.
