AMBITIOUS local girl Rachel Abbiss, 21, has landed a regal role at Buckingham Palace — and is already planning to follow that up with a walk up Mount Etna.
Rachel, of Ackleton, had been intending to take on The Great Wall of China challenge in October but changed her plans after getting her dream summer job.
A position as ‘guiding warden’ at Buckingham Palace awaits her until September after she got through a challenging four-hour interview. Her role entails showing off the Palace rooms to the public, and also private parties
As an official member of the ‘Royal Household Staff’ Rachel will be greeted in person by a yet unknown member of the royal family.
Rachel said: “I am very excited to be given the opportunity to live and work in London, it will be great life experience.”
After achieving a First Class degree in History and Archaeology at Chester University, Rachel hopes to complete a Masters degree and eventually pursue a career in museum work.
Sponsorship and training for the Mount Etna expedition is her next priority. The charity expedition is due to take place in October 2009 and aims to raise money and awareness for Compton Hospice.
